Two Continents That Still Dominate the Ideologies in Soccer
A long hard-fought debate about soccer to diagnose every bits of information and possibilities. But one thing that struck me on that day, the ideologies in soccer. I began to ponder, is there such ideology? , would there be different ideologies in different continents? So I've decided to create a thread in one of the forums and to my astonishment, the thread went reasonably well. But what I'm more worried is not on the established nations like Europe and South America, but more on the rising suns like Asia, Africa and even America. Before we go into Europe and South America, the word ideology is typically a set of beliefs that form the basis of a political, economic, or other system which includes soccer as well. Decades went by to shape up these ideologies in different continents respectively in concern with soccer. Normally through soccer academies and domestic leagues to shape up these ideologies. But let's take a look on the first two well-established continents namely Europe and South America:
Europe
Playing at fast-paced that demands top level fitness along with organised defence and set-piece strategies are what European players are all about. Coaches adopt systematic game play strategies that are applied throughout their season in their respective leagues. Countries like Italy and Germany to name a few adopted a well-disciplined tactical strategies that has yield them six World Cups in total of the two countries. The ever-growing English Premiership demands fast-paced soccer and using the flanks for deadly crosses. However, with the inclusion of top quality foreign players, the Premiership have changed to a more European style approach in soccer with all the teams are tactically prepared making the matches more unpredictable and interesting.
South America
Coaches demand tactical approach in their game of soccer. Playing against a tactically-prepared team in a usually tight situation demand these player's creativity and silky skills. That's why you see the likes of Ronaldinho or Messi control the ball as if it's glued to their feet making it almost impossible to tackle the ball away from them. You'll probably seen most of them in Spain's La Liga or any South American leagues like Clausura Championship.
Other Continents
Continents like Asia, Africa and America tend to imitate on the way the Europeans play while it's still possible but not unique in our own naked eye. The beautiful game of soccer should reflect in all continents in their very own ideologies to make the game more colorful. But the media naturally force these continents to adopt one-way of play and discourage them to find their own style in soccer.
Soccer v.s Futsal
Could there actually be a correlation between these two sports? Let's take an example, Spain, runners-up in Euro 2008 and runners-up in World Futsal Championship 2008. Both are not far off but the common thing between these two is the style of play. There's no doubt that Spain in both soccer and futsal adopt the same mindset in applying "playing through the middle" strategy during the game respectively. Of course, I wouldn't take Brazil because they are good in every part of soccer.
It's been decades since the establishment of the soccer ideology. The more I watch soccer, the more I realised that the world of soccer is converging into one ideology.
The breathtaking atmosphere, colorful teams along with unprecedented superstars with mouthwatering and silky skills and soccer tricks shapes up the whole ideology of a nation or continent which reflects what soccer is all about, the beautiful game.
